Shade Tree Brewing is solely owned and operated by the beer aficionado, former owner of the local Home Brew Shop and ASE Certified Master Technician, Larry Johnson.  After his success with home brewing and experience as a tour guide for Deschutes Brewery, Larry custom engineered a 5bbl brewing system utilizing Boneyard’s first brew kettle, mash tun and many components procured from several other local breweries.

 

STB is discretely located in a beautiful newly constructed 2000 sq ft steel building on his own property in the Deschutes River Woods neighborhood of Bend which gives him access to pristine Central Oregon well water (from the same sweet aquifer as Opal Springs) for brewing. The focus on “Being Green Saves Green” is reflected in the highly efficient, non automated brewery design. Saving water and energy and while reducing wastewater is not only good for the environment but the pocketbook also. Even the daily driver/delivery vehicle runs on 100% biodiesel. As a completely “hands on” One Man Brewer, Larry has the luxury to create distinctly original award winning beer with natural, choice ingredients and longer conditioning times.
